Genesis of the group:

Fondo Mondo Cruë (aka FMC) evolved approximately 3 years ago in Toronto from a casual ride that my buddy Trevor and I (Jason) would do once a week after our babies went to bed.  We would ride from Long Branch to Queens Quay and back.  Some days we would ride to the Beaches.  And once in a while we would ride to a bar on the Esplanade, get trashed and ride the train back in our spandex surrounded by hockey fans from the game that just ended.  Awkward…

It was around that time, a bunch of us attended the inaugural Gran Fondo New York (‘GFNY’), an event which has 3000 riders, 177kms, and 8000′ of climbing and was also a qualifier for the UCI World Cycling Tour Final (UWCT) in Belgium.  At the end of the day, one of the members, Darryl finished in the top 20 percentile and thus qualified!

Upon returning home in Toronto, the group decided to focus on getting Darryl ready for the UWCT Final.  A route was created to focus on teamwork, speed, and endurance.  The four of us (Frank, Trev, Darryl and myself) began riding with the sole goal of improving Darryl’s speed and fitness.  The ride eventually grew from the four of us into a larger group where friends invited other friends and their friends’ friends.

Presently, the ride consists of 10-15 guys coming out regularly from March through November, rain or shine.  On any given crit night it could be a few hours of lolly gagging, practicing our rotations, sprinting, team pursuits, and individual time trials.  At the end, we drop by the local dive and try to eat the calories burned and then some.

The rag tag cruë of riders all share one common passion – cycling.  We decided to call the team FMC because we loved the idea of long spirited group rides.

The cruë has grown over this time and have had some significant accomplishments when considering that most of the guys were relative newbies to the sport of cycling.
